ETO for Multi-Purpose Support Vessel

Join our technical shipboard team as an Electro Technical Officer (ETO) aboard our fleet of vessels. This role is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical, electronic, and automation systems; management of planned maintenance systems; ensuring safe and compliant electrical operations; and supporting the vessel’s technical readiness. The ETO will report to the Chief Engineer and Master, collaborate with engineering and bridge teams, and contribute to compliance with international and company technical and safety standards.
Primary Responsibilities for ETO - electrical systems, automation, maintenance
The role of the ETO is to manage all electrical equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
The primary function of the ETO is to ensure that all electrical machinery, plant and equipment are operated and maintained to the highest degree of safety and performance.
The ETO´s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Execution of the planned maintenance and of repairs and advising the Chief Engineer on the ordering of spares and consumables.
Operation and maintenance of the High Voltage system and of the vessel's internal communication systems.
Complete familiarization with the ship’s system and understand the power and signal flow across various system and safety shutdowns, namely:
i. Power-generation – brushless alternators, AVR, protections.
ii. Main switchboards – controls and trips.
iii. Thruster system – controls and trips.
iv. DP system – signal to and from the position reference and position keeping systems; and
v. Digital networking of controls
Responsible for all the work on any electrical part of the vessel being carried out in a safe and efficient manner that only approved electrical equipment is taken on the vessel and used there and that relevant electrical procedures, including the Permit to Work System, are followed.
Reporting as required by Integrated Management System. They will have responsibility for Budgetary Control of the Electrical Department under the direction of the Chief Engineer.
In charge of the High Voltage room and equipment. Their duties also include repairs of the navigation equipment, the communication equipment and the entertainment systems.
Understanding the vessel FMEA; ensuring that defects with potential to turn into CAT A or CAT B defects be addressed promptly by way of repair or by way of procedures to mitigate the risk of DP incident. The repair shall be completed as soon as possible.
Performing routine checks and repairs, and tagging electrical equipment, fixed and portable, as per PMS, bridge equipment, galley equipment and other interior services such as lighting, power, gym equipment etc.
Maintaining accurate electrical maintenance reports.
Ensuring that electrical precision instruments and tools are well-maintained, serviced, certified and inventory maintained.
The ETO is to carry out any lawful command as requested by Shipboard Management.
Required Qualifications - certification, experience, medical fitness
Certificate of Competency as per STCW reg III/6
STCW endorsements
Valid Medical certificate
DP Maintenance Course (where applicable)
DP experience as per IMCA M 117 (where applicable)
Minimum 12 months of experience in rank and similar type of vessel.
Preferred Skills - advanced diagnostics, automation, sector experience
Experience on offshore support or energy-sector vessels and familiarity with dynamic positioning electrical/automation interfaces is advantageous.
Training or certification in advanced electrical systems, high-voltage safety, switchgear maintenance, PLC/HMI programming, VFD/drive maintenance, or industrial communications (Ethernet/IP, Modbus) is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work with electronic schematics, ladder logic, marine automation software, and condition monitoring tools to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to prioritize maintenance tasks and support emergency technical responses.
Work Environment & Conditions - seafaring life, rotations, safety
Seagoing position with rotational deployments; assignments may include extended periods onboard with defined on/off rotation schedules.
Work in engine rooms, electrical compartments, confined spaces, and at heights; ability to operate safely around rotating machinery, live electrical equipment, and during inclement weather when required.
Must comply with medical fitness standards, vaccinations, and company pre-employment screening requirements.
